What makes Shadow so mean?

Shadow is a Demon Cat from Hell. He is my mother's cat, and she treats him better than she treats her own children. He gets fed half a can of various fish-flavored Fancy Feast cat food at least once a day, he drinks out of the fish tank, and he meows. Constantly and LOUDLY.

We used to let him outside every day to roam around the plants in our front garden. We'd be out there to watch him so he didn't stray too far or get into fights with the neighbor's cat, but he started sneaking off and running away for hours at a time, so he's not allowed out anymore. He torments the other cat so badly that she hasn't come out of my room for almost 3 years now.

I don't quite hate this cat, but sometimes it comes awfully close.
