What makes Patches so mean?

I mean just look at the picture! This is about all you ever see of her, hissing over her shoulder as she goes to my bed to sleep. She loves to sleep, but not alone; she prefers to sleep in my bed with any trash she can dig up to help her feel more comfortable. Any given day, you can find her with some old twist ties, a couple empty toilet paper tubes, and some clumps of insulation she's ripped out of the basement walls. God forbid anyone else should want to sleep in the bed - she pounces on our feet and bites our toes so we can't sleep.  

She's also completely ineffective as a mouser.  We had a mouse in the basement and she actually went up, licked his head as if to say 'Welcome to the neighborhood', then walked away! Fortunately I had a camera to show just how uninterested she was in catching that mouse. She also randomly attacks strangers, doing a quick run by pounce and then retreating to her pile of trash on the bed.  If she wasn't so cute she'd have been a rug by now!
