What makes Murphy so mean?

Murphy is my other meankitty (Sumo's her "brother"). She's usually very sweet and purrs loudly if you so much at look at her. But if you pick her up or take her to the vet, her personality transforms. Murphy truly sounds like she is being tortured when you pick her up - she starts out with a growl that grows into a godawful screech and ends in hissing, spitting, and teeth/claws slashing if you don't put her down. Her folder at the vet's has WILL BITE written in red on the front. I have to take her pet carrier apart to get her out of it, and they've had to put a muzzle on her a few times.

When I take her to the kennel, I tell them to just leave her in her little carrier with the door open and place it in the cage. It's just too scary (and dangerous) to try to get her out of it!
