Millie has an attitude
problem, though it’s
probably warranted. Due to a brush with death involving feline
distemper when she was only 6 weeks old (she’s 1 ½ years
now), her physical development was a little inhibited… Oh,
she’s beautiful, but she has some balance problems. When she
runs fast, her butt whips around to the side of her, so she
runs with her front paws moving forward and her back paws
moving sideways—to keep up with the rest of her body.
She never lays down gracefully, either. She flops. One
minute she’ll be standing and the next minute, you’ll hear
a loud “UGH” as she flops onto the floor. Then she looks
at you like, “What are you looking at? Can’t you see I’m
trying to chill here?”
But back to the attitude: Most cats purr when you pet them.
Millie is the opposite. She gets ticked off and walks away
when you touch her (if you pick her up, all you get is
incessant whining), EXCEPT if she comes to you
purring, which happens about once daily. If you hear Millie
purring, it’s her way of telling you, “OK, I’ll let you
pet me now, but only until I get tired of it.”
When Millie is in one of her “non-purry” moods and
someone is sitting anywhere
in the house, she’ll walk into the room and stop dead in her
tracks when she sees you. She’ll look at you as if to say,
“Oh, PLEASE. Not YOU again.” Then she turns around and
walks out.
Millie can’t jump (because of her muscular
underdevelopment), so the only high-level place she can reach
is the bed, because she can climb onto it. She is obsessed
with high places, though, so she will find something up high
that she wants to see (usually the shower head or the window
sill) and she’ll look at it and let out little whimpers
until you pick her up and show it to her. Then she starts
purring her butt off.
