What makes Lily so mean?

Lily is a matronly lady, who is getting on in years. She is normally a very happy and affectionate kitty, but recently we've discovered her secret hatred of youthful human children. We feel she has an immense jealousy for their innocence. The reason this all came about was when our cousins brought their 2 year old over for a Sunday dinner. Lily was very unnerved by the presence of a child and greeted our young guest with a vicious hiss and growl so deep I thought there were coyotes outside. Later when the youngster became eager to make a new friend, Lily gave her reply by trying to erase the child's existence via mauling. Luckily, the little girl wasn't hurt, but she did give off quite a few tears. When I accusingly looked at Lily, she winked at me!
