What makes Kiley so mean?

Kiley tolerates being petted by my husband and I (even then we can't overdo it, or we'll get bit!). Anyone else she bites. She has also taken a disliking to friends of my husband and has hissed and bitten them just for their existence on this earth. She has established herself as queen kitty over our household and expects to be treated accordingly. Even though she is a mean kitty, we love her very much, and both of us agree life would be very boring without her!
