What makes Cubbages so mean?
Cubbages, our 4 month old kitty, slowly grew into his name. You
see, I'm from Newfoundland, Canada, and a local slang term meaning
"greedy" is the word "cubbages" (it derives
from "covetous").
We named out kitty Cubbages, but little did we know that he'd
live up to the name!!
He's quite a mouser, for one. He prowls our house, and so far,
has systematically captured and murdered 3 mice. 3 INNOCENT mice,
I might add.
When my wife Christine and I are trying to eat a snack while
watching tv, Cubbages will not let anything get in the way of our
food. He'll crawl across the back of our futon, jump at our food,
and (my favorite) he'll dip his paw into our plate if we make the
mistake of looking away for a second!!
His cubbages-ness knows no bounds. We have 3 large dogs, and
the biggest of them is over 200 pounds. However, we've witnessed
Cubbages hopping onto our dogs' food dishes and eating the dog
food while our dogs are standing there!
A 5-lb kitty versus a trio of 200+ lb dogs?
No contest, Cubbages would win any day!
